RoadWork: Memories Under Construction
RoadWork: Memories Under Construction is an ongoing, migratory, community-based research project for participants to share their memories and imaginations about place through the arts. A central component and vehicle of the project is the multipurpose cart on site where drawing workshops, oral history workshops, and site interventions simultaneously take place. RoadWork Collective facilitates activities of drawing, individual storytelling such as interviews and walking tours. In the spirit of inquiry, the project serves to entice community participation, in the understanding of the experiences of others as they visualize and speak to concerns about their communities and world in which they want to live.
About the artist
We are RoadWork Collective, a New York City-based collective of artists and art educators. We are interested in how people construct their perceptions in relation to place, particularly at the vertiginous pace that cities, neighborhoods, and streets are changing today. We facilitate spaces and materials for people to share and render visible their experiences and perceptions of the changing environment.
