Progna Paromita and Gulshan Ashaque
Red Dress
We considered something that relates to the topic of self-expression to be able to find an escape to conformity in society. One of the ways we saw that expressed confidence was in red dresses. Red is symbolic of boldness and rebellion against repression of individualism.
About the Artists
Our names are Progna and Gulshan, and we are both immigrants. We both have the mark of other countries on our arms: a scar from a polio shot given as an infant. We both go to the same school: Queens High School for the Sciences at York College (going into 11th grade). I, Progna, like painting and watercolor; and I like petting dogs and running. I Gulshan, like making 3-D origami and I used to love frisbee and cricket.
